All About Me
I wanted to write down some memories for my kids. This seems a good place to start.
My kids might be interested, but why would anyone else want to read my memoirs? Well, I’ve had a pretty interesting life.
I started out poor, living on a council estate. I took my younger next-door neighbour on a tour of London by bus when I was 10. I joined the Navy at 16. I was an anti-aircraft gunner in the Falklands at 18. Petty Officer at 20. Sonar engineer on a ballistic missile submarine at 21. I drank 34 drinks at my leaving do, with no two drinks the same colour.
I hitchhiked around the world at 22. I swam with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef and was chased by a fur seal on South Georgia and a Komodo Dragon on Komodo. I survived for three days on mangos & coconuts straight from the tree when I ran out of money in Tahiti.
I’ve lived in 13 cities, 3 US States and 4 countries. I’ve met Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, King Charles, Bill Gates and Vice President Biden. I scratched Prince Andrew’s car and I’ve been to a meeting in the White House. I’ve worked on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley and I’ve danced naked in a shopping centre.
I’ve wanted to write my story down for ages, but I couldn’t think of a good place to write it. Substack seems as good a place as any, and if I can’t get a story or two out of that lot, something’s wrong.
I should just get started. Maybe someone else will enjoy them too. Read them in any order you like.
You can find the good stories here.
You can find Chapter One of my adventures here.
You scratched Prince Andrew’s car?! Amazing!
These memoirs sound awesome Ragged. No wonder you wanted to get these experiences down! Look forward to reading through them.
